How Newberry Arrest Records Work
Newberry sits inside Alachua County. Its April 1, 2025 population estimate came in at 9,553. The city's FY2025 audited financial report shows something important: Newberry contracts its law-enforcement services to the Alachua County Sheriff's Office. FY2026 marks the first full year under the renegotiated deal. That detail matters more than it sounds. It tells you who holds the paperwork. It also stops people from hunting down a Newberry Police Department that simply is not a separate records custodian.
So ACSO deputies do the street work. Anyone taken into custody lands at the Alachua County Jail. There the sheriff's office prepares the booking sheet and can post a current photo. Down the line, the Alachua County Clerk keeps the court file. Newberry City Hall is a different animal altogether, holding contracts, policies, budgets, and city business. It never becomes custodian of sheriff incident files just because an arrest happened inside the city limits.
Newberry Has No Separate PD
The sheriff contract actually simplifies the hunt. Call ACSO administration at (352) 367-4000 about any sheriff record, and reach Combined Communications at (352) 955-1818 for current non-emergency needs. For an existing arrest report, booking sheet, or booking image, direct the request to ACSO Records or Department of the Jail records. The Newberry Clerk is the wrong desk for all of it. The city does publish a general law-enforcement contact at 25493 NW 1st Avenue, reachable at (352) 472-2161. It can help with local access. Treat it as a convenience, though, not as evidence of a separate municipal police agency. Emergencies always go to 911.
Note: The sheriff contract covers operations, while Newberry City Hall remains the source for city contracts, policy, finance, and administration.
Where Newberry Busted Mugshots Appear
No official roster covers Newberry alone. The city publishes no arrest blotter either. Everything that can surface a Newberry booking runs at the county level instead. Those sources differ in scope and authority. That is why the official jail and court channels deserve the first look.
| Channel | Photo? | Status | Best use |
|---|---|---|---|
| ACSO Inmate Lookup | Yes | Official | People currently held in the county jail |
| ACSO Public Records | By focused request | Official | Newberry-area sheriff reports and released booking records |
| Alachua County Clerk | Not a mugshot service | Official | Criminal docket and final disposition |
| Newberry Clerk | No jail photos | Official | City contracts and administrative records |
| Alachua Chronicle Crime | Often | News | Near-daily county logs that can include Newberry |
| Busted Newspaper, Recently Booked, Mugshots.com, Arrests.org, and Mugshots.zone | Often | Unofficial | County republishing, not a guaranteed Newberry feed |
Plenty of aggregator sites will tag people as busted in Newberry. Five of them carry such labels. Treat them all with caution. Their listings can be stale, duplicated, thin, or flat wrong. An old entry tells you nothing about custody today, and a missing name proves nothing either. None of them stands in for ACSO or the Clerk.
Who Was Busted in Newberry
Only one official search shows a photo for a Newberry full-custody booking: the county jail roster. Search by first name, last name, booking number, or partial names. You can also hit View All. A result typically lists the person's name, MNI, booking date and time, POD or housing unit, arrest agency, and a picture. Expand the entry and you may find the case number, court case number, bond status, statutes, and the charges booked.
- Search the ACSO current-inmate portal with a full or partial name. Use a booking number if one is known.
- Confirm the arrest agency and booking date. A Newberry location does not require a separate city police label.
- If the person is no longer present, ask ACSO for the existing booking sheet and booking photograph.
- Request the operational incident or arrest report from ACSO, not the Newberry Clerk.
- Use the court case number with the Clerk to check amendments, dismissal, plea, adjudication, or sentence.
One caution on View All. It lists current inmates, not a timed Newberry arrest log. No verified 24-hour, 48-hour, 72-hour, or weekly feed exists at ACSO. A blank result can mean release, a citation without jail admission, a transfer, state custody, or a protected record. Weigh those options before your next request. For the whole county picture, the Alachua County busted mugshots search lays out the full custody matrix.
Request Newberry Sheriff Records
For an ACSO incident, ask for the existing sheriff report with a person’s name, event date, location, and case number if known. For jail material, ask for the existing booking sheet or booking record and booking photograph. A released person may no longer appear in the current roster, but a retained booking record can still be requested. Release does not establish that the filed allegation was dismissed.
ACSO’s customer-service window is at 2621 SE Hawthorne Road, Gainesville, Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jail records can be reached at (352) 491-4444. Offense reports and calls-for-service records use (352) 367-4006. ACSO can charge when production reaches 20 pages or requires more than 15 minutes of staff time. Posted paper rates are $0.15 single-sided and $0.20 double-sided, with other charges possible. No fixed response-day promise is published.

Administration: (352) 367-4000
Non-emergency: (352) 955-1818
Jail records: (352) 491-4444
Keep the request narrow. Staff can then find the record faster and quote a closer cost estimate. Electronic delivery is fair to ask for when the record itself is electronic. That format does not erase review or redaction work. Florida law lets ACSO withhold exempt portions.
Newberry City Records Stay Separate
City records and sheriff records answer different questions in Newberry. The city clerk keeps the municipal side: the ACSO service contract, council actions, budgets, and policy files. None of that produces a booking photo or a case report. Those live with the sheriff. For city business, write to cityclerk@newberryfl.gov or call (352) 472-2446. The office sits at City Hall, 25440 W Newberry Road, Newberry, FL 32669.
Fees start low. The first ten paper copies are free. After that, each single-sided page costs $0.15 and each double-sided page $0.20. Certification adds $1, and a CD or DVD runs $1. Staff can bill extra when a request tops 15 minutes, figured in quarter-hour chunks from the pay of the lowest-paid employee who can handle the work. A deposit may be required first. Turnaround times are not guaranteed.
| If the record concerns | Ask |
|---|---|
| Deputy response or arrest report | ACSO operational records |
| County-jail booking sheet or image | ACSO Department of the Jail records |
| Filed criminal case and outcome | Alachua County Clerk |
| Sheriff contract, city policy, or finance | Newberry Clerk |
Keep the two tracks straight and you will save hours. Ask the clerk for city papers. Ask the sheriff for anything about an arrest. A city custodian simply cannot produce a booking photo the city never held.
When Newberry Busted Photos Post
Booking Support at ACSO works around the clock. Staff type in admissions and releases as they happen. Every new arrestee sees a judge within 24 hours. What the agency will not say is how fast the public roster catches up. A 24-hour booking desk is not a live Newberry mugshot feed, so treat delays as normal.
Plenty happens before a name shows up online. Deputies handle transport, identity checks, charge entry, property, medical screening, security checks, and a cell assignment first. An arrest from an hour ago is worth searching again later. If the person may already be out, switch to an ACSO records request instead. Keep in mind that current custody, an old booking, and an open court case each come from a different place.
Newberry Busted Mugshots in News
Alachua Chronicle posts a county booking log almost daily, and Newberry names show up there. The paper says its staff start from raw logs, fix small errors, and check court files when something looks off. Helpful as it is, the log is still a secondhand snapshot tied to a date. It cannot tell you who sits in jail right now or how a case ended.
Other outlets pick their spots. Mainstreet Daily News, WCJB, and WUFT cover Newberry and west-county crime when it makes news, not every arrest. County-wide aggregator pages sometimes tag a story as Newberry too, with no promise of full coverage. For a fuller comparison of these outlets, see the Alachua County Arrest News page.
Photos in news stories vary. Some come from an agency, some from the jail, some from the scene or a file. Check the caption and the date, then confirm custody with ACSO. Court outcomes belong to the Clerk's docket.
Newberry Booking Status Meanings
A listing on the ACSO site means the person is in the Alachua County Jail as of that status entry. Once released, the booking may sit behind a public-records request instead. Serving a state sentence? That is Florida Department of Corrections territory. Federal custody runs through the federal locator system. None of these replaces the Clerk's docket for what a court actually did.
- Booking
- Admission to jail, where an intake record and photo may be created.
- Current custody
- Presently held in the county facility according to the roster.
- Release
- Departure from that booking, not the court’s ruling.
- Disposition
- The later recorded result of the criminal case.
Pick the record that fits the question. In Newberry, where the sheriff polices the city, there is no separate municipal police database to fall back on, so the rule matters even more.
Identifiers keep the systems connected. The MNI is ACSO's local master-name number, a booking number marks one jail admission, and a case number points to a filing at the courthouse. They do not swap. A charge listed at booking can also differ from the counts a prosecutor later files. When two sources clash, trust ACSO on custody and the Clerk on the docket, not whichever webpage has been up the longest.
